San Francisco Ballet is the oldest professional ballet company in the United States, founded in 1933. It was the first American company to stage a complete Swan Lake (1940) and the first to premiere a complete Nutcracker (1944). Under current director Tamara Rojo, SFB presents over 100 performances annually and is recognized internationally for both classical excellence and its commitment to commissioning new choreography. The company won the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award in 2005.
