The Florida Ballet was founded in 1978 by Laurie Picinich-Byrd and Michael Byrd and has grown into Jacksonville's premier ballet institution. Between 1983 and 1989, it was the highest state-funded dance company in Florida as recognized by the Florida Department of State. The Tallahassee Ballet
