Atlanta Ballet holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating ballet company in the United States, founded in 1929 by Dorothy Moses Alexander. The company was the first ballet company to help fund a symphony (1946) and has grown into a major cultural institution under Balanchine-trained leadership. Its community education programs reach over 20,000 people annually, including kinesthetic learning programs designed for at-risk students.
