Founded in 1934 by George Balanchine, Lincoln Kirstein, and Edward Warburg, the School of American Ballet is the definitive training ground for the Balanchine technique and the primary feeder school for New York City Ballet. Over 95% of NYCB's dancers are SAB alumni. The school has produced legendary dancers including Maria Tallchief, Suzanne Farrell, Arthur Mitchell, and William Forsythe, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Obama.
