Ballet West was founded in 1963 as the Utah Civic Ballet by William Christensen and Glenn Walker Wallace, making it the first fully professional ballet company in the Intermountain West. Renamed Ballet West in 1968, the company has performed over 400 works and is the only professional ballet company between Chicago and the West Coast. The organization offers comprehensive training through Ballet West Academy with divisions from beginner through professional levels.
